War Service February 1861 Maj. in South Carolina provisional army, Fort Sumter, First Manassas, Col., Ball's Bluff, October 1861 Brig. Gen., Second Manassas, commanded a division temporarily in the Sharpsburg campaign, Vicksburg campaign, tried for intemperance and disobedience, acquitted but lost command, returned to duty 1864, fled Richmond with President Davis.
Post War Career High school principal.
