Enfield Rifle Musket

It was perhaps the most populat gun in the Confederacy service after '62 and one of the most effective.

The Confederate government purchased the P53 Enfield rifle muskets from the British Small Arms Trade and not from the British government. The various BSAT contractors who manufactured the P53 Enfield rifle muskets for export to the Confederacy made parts that were slightly different and interchangability of the parts became a problem.

I have a nice ArmiSport P53 Enfield reproduction stamped with Charles Swinburn of the BSAT , who was supposed to have been one of the contractors whose muskets ran the blockade to New Orleans and to Houston by way of Mexico after New Orleans fell and supplied the Western and Trans-Mississippi Departments.
