Born September 1 1798, New York NY
Died November 5 1873, Washington DC
Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1818 (1st in class), engineer duty, superintendent of West Point.
War Service 1861 commanded defences in New York harbor, April 1864 Brig. Gen. in Regular Army and chief of engineers.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.A. March 13 1865.
Post War Career Retired 1866, served on boards and commissions.
