Pre-War Profession Surveyor, teacher, lawyer, newspaper editor, Mexican war, gold miner, politician, US congressman, governor of Kansas Territory and the territory which now includes Colorado.
War Service August 1861 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 3rd Bde/5th Divn in advance on Corinth, garrison duty, resigned March 1863.
Post War Career Lawyer.
