Pre-War Profession Businessman, prohibitionist, mayor.
War Service November 1861 Col. of 13th Maine, New Orleans, April 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded forts below New Orleans, commanded Dist of Florida, commanded 1st Bde/2nd Divn/XIX Corps at Port Hudson (w,c), exchanged for Rooney Lee March 1864, resigned because of poor health November 1864.
