Born April 17 1833, Lowell VT
Died August 31 1912, Calais ME
Pre-War Profession Teacher.
War Service November 1861 Col. of 11th Maine, appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers (April 1862) commanding 1st Bde/1st Divn/II Corps, Peninsula campaign, Fredericksburg (w), Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, relieved of duty in Army of the Potomac March 1864.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. August 19 1865.
Post War Career Lawyer, US consul in Valparaiso, US minister to Uruguay, US consul in Costa Rica.
Notes He served in the honor guard in the procession of Lincoln's body from Washington to Springfield
