War Service July 1861 transferred to the War Department, May 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, served in Kentucky and Tennessee, Burnside's campaign in East Tennessee, commanded the cavalry division of XXIII Corps at Knoxville, commanded 3rd Divn/XXIII Corps in Carolinas campaign. Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865. Post War Career US Navy service, retired 1881. |
