Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 2nd Bde/4th Divn/XV Corps at Chattanooga (w), Sherman's inspector general in Atlanta campaign, Allatoona Pass (w), commanded 4th Divn/XV Corps in March to the Sea, Carolinas campaign.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. October 5 1864.
Post War Career Internal revenue collector, railroad builder, politician, postmaster.
