Died October 18 1864, Philadelphia PA
Pre-War Profession Lawyer.
War Service April 1861 Lt. Col. in 23rd Pennsylvania, August 1861 Col., February 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded a brigade in 3rd Divn/III Corps, Peninsula campaign, Seven Pines, Chantilly, commanded 1st Divn/III Corps at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, May 1863 promoted Maj. Gen. of Volunteers, Gettysburg, commanded 3rd Divn/II Corps at Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, commanded X Corps, succumbed to malaria.
