Died August 14 1907, Forest Glen MD
Pre-War Profession Lawyer, writer, newspaper owner.
War Service May 1861 Capt., First Bull Run, September 1861 Maj. of 4th New Jersey, Peninsula campaign, Seven Days, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, January 1863 Col., Chancellorsville, May 1863 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers and Col. of 22nd US Colored Infantry, recruited regiments of black troops, served in Florida, commanded 3rd Divn/X Corps, Chaffin's Farm, commanded 2nd Divn/XXV Corps, Appomattox campaign.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865.
Post War Career Lawyer, US attorney for the District of Columbia, writer.
