BROWNE, William Montague CSA


Born July 7 1827, Cty Mayo Ireland
Died April 28 1883, Athens GA
Pre-War Profession British army in Crimean War, diplomat, newspaper editor.
War Service 1861 aide to President Davis (Col. of cavalry), interim Secretary of State February - March 1862, conscription duties in Georgia, November 1864 Brig. Gen. (rejected by Senate), commanded an infantry brigade in Mercer’s Divn at Savan nah.
