If I might suggest... avoid the Italian Springfield repops unless you are going to splurge and go for a Pedersoli... even that isn't quite the best bet.

Invest in a James River Armory US Model 1861... it cost quite a bit more but it is a true reproduction that looks & feels like an original.

Your next best bet is the Springfield by Miroku available through Dixie Item # PK0431. It eliminates all the misfire issues common w/ the Italian made repros, is the right weight and feel... I've had one for most of four years now and it's a wonderful weapon.

IIRC Lodgewood consignment page has several reasonably priced used repros & a number of originals that are skirmish or re-enactor ready. They have a Navy Arms Miroku M1863 for under $400 IIRC.

Good Luck

I want to try to get a Springfield for cheap and save up to get an original lock plate, butt plate and hammer and then send it to James River to get the stock re contoured and the original parts put in. I thought that Dixie Gun Works stoped Selling Japanese Springfields.

There are still some of the Miroku kits avail... $575 IIRC.

I know Lodgewood has plenty of original lock plates.

James River does a custom, I think they call it, M1861 starting w/ a EuroArms and slapping on some original parts for a very reasonable cost.

I called Dixie Gun Works and asked them about the Miroku Springfield’s the person I was talking to said that they never carried Miroku, but when I gave them the item number you gave me they said that its another Japanese brand called Jujiden could this be the rifle you were talking about.
Daniel Harhangi

Several hours later

I received an email from Dixie Gun Works that said that they no longer carry Miroku Springfield’s ok, then what was the person I was talking on the phone with talking about it had the same item number was Japanese but was a different brand. Now I’m more confused than ever can you please help me straiten this out.
Thank you in advance

Jeeesh... no wonder i hate dealing w/ Dixie. The item number comes out of their catalog... it's labeled Miroku in the catalog. I'd be tempted to tell you to just start working up the chain until you get a legit answer. Likely the people working the phones don't know the difference between a musket and a handgun...

Good Luck

Let me know what you find out.

I called Dixie Gun Works and talked to a lady who said that in the catalog the Springfield is called Miroku and in their computer its called Jujiden she told me to talk to their gunsmith so an hour later I called back and talked to the Gunsmith who said that it was indeed Miroku and they do have them in stock he said the lady I was talking to had know idea what she was talking about. So I think I will order one with in a few days. Hopefully the AC is back up so I can find some more details on Miroku Springfield’s if I remember the posts that I read backed up what you had said about how they are superior to the Italian made reproductions.

My father has an original contract Springfield by SNW&TC and my Miroku is the only stock repop that comes near it in balance weight and appearance. The Armi Sport is just terrible and the Euro Arms... is only vaguely close. Given the choice Miroku or a James River (which starts out w/ a Euro Arms IIRC)

Good Luck
