Default new book on Confederate sharpshooters

And it's not my own. I thought some of you guys might be interested.

Fred Ray, who has written several articles on the Confederate Sharpshooter for America's Civil War magazine, has finished his book. Entitled Shock Troops of The South: The Sharpshooter Battalions of the Army of Northern Virginia, it is the first modern book devoted solely to the sharpshooters in that army. Previously, only one book (Capt. Dunlop's "Lee's Sharpshooters or Forefront of Battle) has ever addressed it and Fred Ray from his articles Mr. Ray has done extensive research on the subject. http://sharpshooters.cfspress.com

Gary:

We've all read about the skill of country boys and their meat-gathering aim. No doubt but that skill served a useful purpose on both sides.

But the sharpshooter was much more than a really good shot.

I was especially impressed when reading about Ft. Donelson. Cold, nasty, consarned uncomfortable, but it seems that Grant ordered up a group of sharpshooters. I could just SEE it. They moved out and disappeared into the ground! Conducting their deadly business, no doubt.

Kind of makes a few unmentionable muscles twitch.

Ole,

If you want to read more sharpshooting stories that I've collected myself in anticipation of publishing a book, click on this link: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=36853
