On the schedule is the upper Valley. Too many places, too little time.
Want to blend Gettysburg and Antietam in there so long as we're that far east. But that works into weeks rather than days.
What CW trips does everyone have planned for this year? I am planning to go back to Franklin in April, Vicksburg for "Park Day", Corinth in October since Texas is planning to dedicate and new marker at Battery Robinette, and hopefully to Gettysburg for the Remebrance Day Parade. I do envy tose of you who live close to sites and can go on any given weekend.

Life is not about waiting out the storm. Life is about learning to dance in the rain.
I wish I could go to Franklin. I have never been, and I would really like to go because my gggrandfather, and his brother both fought in the battle and survived.![]()
As always, Gettysburg three or four times, the last of which will be this year's Remembrance Day Parade. Otherwise, we're planning Franklin and Shiloh, and will probably hit some Virginia sites on the way down or back.
Ole, if you do think you'll get to Gettysburg, let me know. It's easy for me to shoot out there and meet up with you, if you want to be harassed and taunted!
Pam
Plan to visit at least six eastern theater sites plus Vicksburg and maybe Shiloh.
Will also do some Revolutionary War tours, especially around NYC and NJ
Brgds,
Pat
I am meeting Union_Buff and his mother in Antietam in April.
On the first weekend in May I am joining Madviking and hopefully Wayne Jackson at Jefferson, Texas.
Will see where finances will allow me to go this fall.
MT155, I too am envious of the folks who live close to these hallowed grounds. If it weren't for family, I'd be right in the thick of it!

Pam. If it looks like I can get to Gettysburg, I will certainly let you buy me a beer. I get all the harrassing and taunting I can handle without leaving the house. And in the car for two days, I get mobile's harrassing and taunting. By the time I get there, if I get there, all I'll want is a hug and a recommendation about where to get a burger and a beer.
Ole

That I can do, Ole, just let me know when!

Where're you planning on staying in the 'Burg, K? Things usually book up fast for reinactment days.
Pam
It still looks like a CWT meet-fest can work. I suck at such activities. Anyone want to try? I'll be there.
Ole
Unless it's in California. Ain't gonna drive that far.

The Travelodge isn't bad, though. Good spot. Actually, though we've stayed the most often at the Gettysburg Hotel on the Square/Diamond, I've stayed at least four or five other places too. For me, it's just the BEING there--and a good place for food and a beer--that matters most!
Pam
I'm so jealous of everybody. My hubbie and I were talking yesterday about how we wished we could do our "dream trip" to Vicksburg, visit Ft. Pemberton (where some of my relatives managed to blow themselves up with a torpedo they were "tinkering" with, after sinking the Cairo), then to Franklin and maybe some other Forrest spots. The one trip I made to Gettysburg, Antietam and Lexington was NOT enough...just made me want more. Kinda like....![]()
NathanB1.....Where in TX do you call home? I live just south of Houston and Vicksburg is just a 9 HR drive away. It is the closest "major" site to me. Great town.
Bonnie Blue...are you talking about the Jefferson reenactment? I would like to see that as well. I heard that it is the largest one in Texas, should be good since everything is bigger and better in Texas!!
Mike .T
In the exact middle. That's the ONLY thing I dislike about Texas--it takes so darned long to get out of here, you forget why you were going. If you live on the edge (we used to live north of you, at Centerville) you always need to go the other way (i.e., New Mexico). Irritating.
I'm hoping to be able to attend the dedication of the MN Monument at Allatoona pass the first week or so of October. We're about $500 dollars short of getting the coin for it. I've been asked to give the dedication speech. I don't think I've been so honored since I was twice over made a Godfather. If that can happen, health and finances allowing I will also take in Franklin, Murfreeburough, Reseca and the sights around Chattanooga to include Chickamauga... I might be able to swing a guided tour of Franklin by Steve Cone and maybe a guided tour of Chickamauga by one of the Rangers there that I know vaguely.
Then meet some friends who might come up from Florida.
Ambitious but I think doable.
Few take the trouble to understand or to view the American scene with perspective. And we Americans love to find ourselves guilty of something. However, it is never I who am guilty, but those other Americans, the past or present government or the other political party. Americans almost never find other countries guilty. It is always ourselves or our fancied influence in other countries. Louis L'amour
I'd like to hit Gettysburg at least twice this year. I've been there for the reenactment days but have never seen the Rememberance Day parade. I'd like to try and make it there this year.
A CWT meet-up would be nice. If anyone else is planning on it, let me know....

Try as I might, there are several places I failed to get to while living in Petersburg, VA for 10 years. The Mariner's Museum, Fortress Monroe, Danville, VA, etc. While I did see a lot in that decade spent in the Commonwealth, I should have made an effort to do more. Perhaps we tend to neglect or take for granted what's in our "backyard". Maybe our mindset is, "I can go there anytime. I'll do it NEXT month/year....etc." In my current location, I'd have to drive 12 hours to see the Museum of the Confederacy. This time last year I could've been in Richmond proper in 20 minutes. (sigh)
For 2010 I'd like to make a pilgrimage to the Lincoln sites in and around Springfield, Illinois. Have seen many of them previously but it's been awhile. 'Sides, I haven't had the chance to see the new Lincoln Museum. Anyone have any comments on that venue?

MT155, the gathering at Jefferson, Texas will be from Friday, April 30th to Sunday May 2nd.
Lots of Bed-N-Breakfasts in and around town, but very pricey. Larger towns with motels near Jefferson include Marshall, Longview, Mt. Pleasant, Shreveport-La.
The nearest is Marshall, at 13 miles, south of Jefferson. That is where I will book my room.
Hope to see some of you all there!

This is a great event. Go if you can.
Would like to get to Fts. Henry and Donelson if I can, which are not all that far from here, but I'd like to do some more reading on 'em before I go.
