Where in Virginia did he Live?
What Confederate unit do you think he served in?
How do you know he was hung?
Date of his birth?
Name of his parents? where did they live?
My mother's maiden name was Rhodes and the Rhodes side of the family lived in NYC since the 17th century.
Family legend has it that my g-g-grandfather, William Rhodes served in a NY regiment but his brother moved to VA and served the Confederacy, but was hanged by Federal troops. Upon research, there was a young boy of 17 named Henry Rhodes who was shot by Wesley Merritt's men in Front Royal, VA and two of his comrades were hanged. They had some varying connection to Mosby band.
henry's mother is described as a widow, but I have been unable to find any information about Henry Rhodes' father, including his name and year and place of birth.
Anybody help me?
Brgds,
Pat

I look through the Civil war soldier and sailor data base and could not find any Harry Rhodes....found a few with H as a middle initial...in Virginia units...

He was a very recent recruit to Mosby's men and was caught up with some others at Front Royal, VA
