    Default Speaking of ghosts...

Hello i saw orbs being discussed in another thread and thought I'd share my Gettysburg story with you folks who are interested. We went to the Gettysburg reenactments during the anniversary years ago and was surprised to have many things happen. My mother, sister, and I were driving by the Irish brigade monument and my sisters camera (that was all by itself on the seat next to her) turned on and opened it's lens. She said she had turned it off and didn't know why that happened. Then it closed it's lens and turned off right off. We all got an thick feeling in the air there. This camera did this same thing 3 other times in 3 other areas (Devils Den,Cemetery Hill, Seminary Ridge) on the battlefield but never had happened before or happened again.

When my sister and I were under a large pine tree next to the restrooms on Cemetery Hill. I went to take a picture of her on the path below the tree and the camera wouldn't take the picture. I tried to take a picture to the side of her to check if it was because of a lack of light and it took the pic but when I tried to get her again it wouldn't take it. We switched to see if it would take a pic of me and it did immediately. We tried again to see if it would take her and it wouldn't. We thought something might show up in these pics but we never developed the film since it was misplaced in a move we had right after we got home...someday we'll find it and I think there could be some good stuff on it.

When we were walking on the top of Cemetery Hill we seemed engulfed in cigar smoke. We looked around and saw that we were alone and the people in the distance weren't smoking anything(we had this same experience when we were walking back to our car in the parking lot of all places). We were right next to a caisson with the spare wheel on the back. Just at this time the wheel began to sway slowly at first but then was really turning hard. We were a little freaked out by this and tried to reason that the wind could have done this but then went to another caisson to see how heavy the wheel was and found that there was no way wind could cause it to budge! This is when my sister's camera went crazy again. It was dusk and there was an extremely sad feeling in the air.

When we were dining at the Farnsworth Inn we all went together to use the restroom (ladies always go in groups) and I went to open the door to the ladies room because it seemed to be slightly opened and when I put my hand on the knob it slammed shut. I thought that someone must have been in there so we waited for like 5 mintues. I knocked on the door and no one answered so I opened it and the room was empty. We thought that there might have been a vacuum possibly that made the door slam like that but tried 3 other times and it couldn't be replicated.

The ironic thing is we went on a ghost tour thinking it was going to be great and felt it was a joke. We had so much more things happen alone to us.

On a humorus note we wanted to go to the battlefield at night to see if we felt anything and we were really scared and thought we were the only ones crazy enough to do this. Well we almost had a heart attack when all over the battlefield we saw blue flashing lights...then even heard voices off in the distance....but soon realized the whole battlefield was filled with people as crazy as us...we had a good laugh!

We went back again the next year not on the annerversary and were surprsied to not have anything strange happen and never even felt the extreme saddness and thickness we felt the first time. Next time we go back we'll go on the annversary.

Excellent post lauren777! Many folks have seen those orbs out there around certain areas. I myself have only seen them in photos. The cigar smoke that you seen was probably like the stuff that is in a picture on my units web site. The air there got very cold very quick and the feeling was something uneasy. It only lasted for a few minutes and returned back to the regular temperture around 74 or so.

I have a friend who worked back in the 80's who was a park guide at the Gburg battlefields or many years and he seen many, many strange things out there on the fields.

Captain Dave I tried to see that pic too but it didn't come up. It sounds like a good one though! I would think that if anyone could attract civil war spirits it would be reenactors. Just the fact that your dressed up like them would probably draw them in. I would think that you could also attract some negative energy. For example say your dressed Union and a Confederate ghost happens by or vice versa. I was even thinking that everyone was dressed so realistically during that reenactment that if ghost did appear you wouldn't have been able to tell the difference!

When my family and I went to Gettysburg about a year ago.We stopped by the Triangle field to get some pictures. My daughter and I got the camera out fully charged and went out into the field.I got a few yards into the field and the camera stopped working.the batteries were dead.Ive heard of this happening to others out there.Well it also happened to us.
The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving on. Ulysses S. Grant
