Default Kepi Information / Breast Plate Info

    Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forume and I have been stating to collect some Civil War memorabilia. I have recently traced my ancetory back, and found out that I had one relative who was in the Union out of West Virginia and two that fought for the South with the 62nd Virginia Mounted Infantry. One was a Sergant and the other was a 1st Lt who was shot and killed in Maryland. So ever since finding this out, my journey began.
My question is, I have a Forage cap and was wondering if there is a pattern to trace the leather visor into the Mcdowell type of visor. My second question is, I have a federal breast plate for the cartridge sling. I need to know how to attach it to the leatehr strap. The back of it has 2 hooks on one side and one hook on the far side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...Tom

    Dear TPK25,

This web site has many uniforms and details that may assist on identifying the forge cap; as they might be able to assist you with the breast plate.
