Default The WBTS Trivia Game is looking for a new Moderator

    Hello all CWT members:

Our Trivia Game will soon be in need of a new "Moderator". The current moderator is hoping someone can pick up the flag. My tenure will continue till the end of what is now "Game #62", so will terminate sometime in October.

I informed my players a couple weeks ago, but I thought I'd inform the general membership also.

Here is some of what I told our current players:

"After just over 2 years as Trivia Moderator, I have decided it is time for me to step down. It has become an obligation that I can no longer do justice to, as circumstances have developed which require more of my time.
I hope all the players over the years have enjoyed the game, I tried to make sort of fun, sort of interesting, and sort of difficult. While not always achieving those goals, I hope that you have enjoyed the past two years."

And I'll add something that former moderator Hoosier posted some two years ago, which I believe speaks the truth of the state of the game today:

"If the game is to continue, we will need two things. We will need a new moderator, and we will need people who are interested in playing.

If, assuming a new moderator can be found, you are interested in playing the game, please enter a post in this thread stating your interest, and we’ll see how many potential players we can accumulate.

Likewise, if you are interested in serving as moderator, please enter a post in this game stating your interest in that position. Note that the new moderator does not have to run the game the same way I did – you can make up your own rules. If you want to have a daily question rather than five questions a week (years ago, that’s the way Mike Kendra ran the game), or if you feel some other system suits you better, you would be free to do so.

For the time being, I still have the moderator’s authority to approve posts to appear in this board. I will look in on this thread as often as I can and approve posts of those indicating an interest in playing and/or moderating, so that everyone can see how high or low the interest level is."

I have informed Mike and Ami of my decision to step down, but as yet am uncertain as to their interest in continuing the game.

To all who have played the game over the past few years and those who might have just observed it, I hope my questions have given you some bit of pleasure over the years.

    Sam

    Default Trivia

I'll play! I don't and wouldn't want to run it, but I will play. I'm into the search.

I really look forward to playing. Didn't get answers submitted last week, Week 3, because of question 5 about the identically named CSA and USA generals.

I appreciate all the work you've put into composing questions, Sam, and understand a need to take a rest. Hope somebody surfaces to do the job.

I would like to start playing as well. This looks incredibly interesting.

I was honored to be able to do the job of the WTBS Trivia Game and will never forget that experience. Personal reasons have developed which cause me to relinquish that role.

I hope one of you might pick up that flag which I can no longer carry.

The job can be as simple or as difficult as one makes it.

I think I may have made it more difficult than it needed to be by creating my own original questions and providing internet sources to support the answers to the questions. I think I may have become more devoted to the game than was necessary, and so it required more of my time than probably necessary.

When Hoosier explained the job in 2007 he said:
"Perhaps someone more efficient than I could perform the moderator’s duties in less time than it took me, but I would say that I found the total time commitment per week to be at least two and a half to threehours." That's probably about right if one does not get as maniacally involved as I did.

If one were to take up the job of Trivia Moderator, the game can be played according to whatever conditions/rules that the new mod might devise.

Mike had a daily game. Hoosier had a weekly game that I based mine on. Maybe something new?

All one needs to do the job is a great interest in the WBTS (or Civil War, as you prefer), and an interest in some of those interesting people, incidents, etc. which may not have been so fully exploited in the well known histories/accounted of the war. A sense of humor is optional, but may be helpful.

Anyone with the slightest interest may post on this thread. We will give all assistance to whoever might take the job.

You've done an incredible job, samgrant, and the next volunteer has some big shoes to fill. But I do sincerly hope that there is one, somewhere, out there, who will take up the challenge. Larry Gebring? Sarladaise? Socknitter? Who will take up the flag? The board will survive without the game, but it is so much more hospitable with it. Go for it.

Well folks, I've got to close this thread while I'm still a General.

Please direct any comments and/or thoughts to one of Ami's "Trivia Moderator needed" threads.
