I am not a big movie fan and rarely rent DVD's let alone go to the theater. If Hollywood had to depend on me to fill their coffers they would be SOL.
But I have to tell you if you haven't seen the movie "Public Enemies" yet- go. Its the best I have seen since "Master and Commander".
I cannot claim any sort of deep knowledge of the criminal career of John Dillinger. I read a book or two about the '30's era gangsters many years ago when I was in High School. From what I know of it the movie seems a fairly accurate representation. But however factual the movie may or may not be it is still very well done and pegs the look and feel of Great Depression America. The quality of the acting is through the roof. Its an engrossing, interesting, entertaining two and a half hours.
History at its best is a tool from which we can discover truths, at its worst a weapon used to manipulate opinion.
