    Question Just getting started....

Hi, I'm trying to get into reenacting (I have already been to a few) and am not having much luck. I recently moved to NY, and cannot seem to find a unit/group to join. My impression is of a confederate lady, and I would love to go to an event, but cannot register because I am alone (sort of a catch 22). Can someone please help me?!!!!

If you find an event you wish to attend call up the organizers and ask to be put in contact w/ a CS unit. You should be able to conect w/ a unit that way.

http://agsas.org/ is the premier Civilian living history organization on the east coast IMO. Their standards are rather high though.

thomas.rathbun@gte.net runs a CS arty outfit in the NY area; that might be a contact to find like minded ladies.
Few take the trouble to understand or to view the American scene with perspective. And we Americans love to find ourselves guilty of something. However, it is never I who am guilty, but those other Americans, the past or present government or the other political party. Americans almost never find other countries guilty. It is always ourselves or our fancied influence in other countries. Louis L'amour

We Cornfeds wish to thank you for your interest in this hobby. There are two organizations with which you might benefit from contacting.

    1. The United Daughters of the Confederacy
    2. The Order of the Confederate Rose

I can probably find some url links for you if you need them, though it should be easy enough with a good Google or other search. The ladies who populate these organizations do much re-enacting and educational portrayals. They will know what's happening and with whom. I don't belong to either group, can't quite pass the physical.

Here's something I wanted to share in case you haven't seen it:

Why I Am a Daughter of the Confederacy

I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I was born a Daughter of the Confederacy. A part of my heritage was that I came into this world with the blood of a soldier in my veins...a soldier who may have had nothing more to leave behind to me and to those who come after me except in heritage...a heritage so rich in honor and glory that it far surpasses any material wealth that could be mine. But it is mine, to cherish, to nurture and to make grace, and to pass along to those yet to come. I am, therefore, a Daughter of the Confederacy because it is my birthright.

I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I have an obligation to perform. Like the man in the Bible, I was given a talent and it is my duty to do something about it. That is why I've joined a group of ladies whose birthright is the same as mine...an organization which has for its purpose the continuance and furtherance of the true history of the South and the ideals of southern womanhood as embodied in its Constitution.

I am a member of The United Daughters of the Confederacy because I feel it would greatly please my ancestor to know that I am a member. It would please him to know that I appreciate what he did and delight his soldier love to know that I do not consider the cause which he held so dear to be lost or forgotten. Rather, I am extremely proud of the fact that he was a part of it and was numbered among some of the greatest and bravest men which any such cause ever produced.

I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I can no more help being a Daughter of the Confederacy than I can help being an American, and I feel that I was greatly favored by inheriting a birthright for both.

you could always do what I did! I went to the 140th manassas without a stitch of reenactment attire. I paid the fee as the general public and roamed the union camps until I found a group Close to home. Ended up getting enough gear before nighttime to stay with them over night, and was outfitted enough by the next afternoon to take part in the battle!

You could find an event you want to go to, go there in your dress or whatever you have, and try and hook up with a unit that way. I've never seen anybody looking to get started get turned away.
