    Default Trivia Game # 44 - Week 6

    Here are the questions for Week 6, the final week of Game # 44:

    26. What Civil War battle is known by a name that means “Place of Peace” in Hebrew?

    27. Which of the Confederate generals at Fort Donelson had once been U.S. Secretary of War?

    28. To whom, on April 1, 1865, did Robert E. Lee issue an order to “Hold Five Forks at all hazards?”

    29. What state has a state park, a TVA dam, a wildlife refuge, and a lake, all named for Gen. Joseph (Fightin’ Joe) Wheeler?

    30. (Two point question) James Longstreet was seriously wounded by shots fired by Virginia troops at the Battle of the Wilderness. What Confederate general was killed as a result of the same “friendly fire” incident?

    Answers to the questions for Week 6 will be due by 6 PM EST on Saturday, Feb. 17.

    Good luck!

    26- Place of Peace is Shiloh;

    27- CSA Brig Genl John Buchanan Floyd had been Secy of War to Pres Buchanan, and had acted so shadily in that post that he was under Federal indictment. Because of this and certain allegations that he had treacherously ordered arms transported South while Secy of War so that they could 'fall' into Rebel hands and believing he'd be hanged if captured by the Federals led Genl Floyd to precipitously abandon his post. He ended up ultimately escaping Yankee wrath and doing everybody a favor by up and dying all on his own in Aug '63;

    28- Confederate defender of Five Forks was Genl George Pickett, who managed to catch only the tail end of the battle- the rout, because he was otherwise occupied at a shad bake;

    29- Where Joe Wheeler is a hero- Alabama;

    30- One of Longstreet's favorite brigade commanders, the South Carolina grandee, Genl Micah Jenkins, killed while riding with Longstreet on their flank attack in the Wilderness. The Wilderness was not particularly tolerant of Confederate generals making flank attacks.
    'It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag'

    -Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC.

    We conclude Game # 44 as we began it – with a week in which everyone who played answered all five questions correctly. Congratulations to all, and especially to the co-champions of the First Division, Sarladaise and SamGrant, and to the winner of the Second Division, ewc (who got hot the same time the Penguins did), all with perfect scores of 36 points each.

    Here are the answers to the questions for Week 6:

    26. The battle of Shiloh was named for the nearby Methodist church, which was named for the Hebrew word. Any Jewish soldiers who participated in the battle probably found the name profoundly ironic.

    27. John B. Floyd was the former Secretary of War.

    28. Lee issued the order to Gen. George Pickett, who was unable to hold it.

    29. All these sites are located along the Tennessee River, but they are all in the state of Alabama.

    30. Micah Jenkins was killed in the incident.

    The final scores for Game # 44:

    FIRST DIVISION

    SamGrant 36
    Sarladaise 36

    SECOND DIVISION

    ewc 36
    RivrRat 35
    Rad2duhbone53 34
    Texaswildcat 34
    20thMass 29
    Miss Markie 23
    Ole 19
    Jamieva 15
    Sockknitter 12

    So Sarladaise, how are we going to share all those 'fabulous prizes'?
