    Default Gettysburg events

    Thanks to the NPS and the 57th NC Vol. Inf. Co A

    Jan. 24, 2007--Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower
    Historic Site have announced a number of additions and clarifications
    to their 2007 calendar of events at the park during the annual season
    of major tourism. Other activities sponsored by the town and various
    civic groups will be going on during the same period, and the
    contacts at the bottom of this calendar should be consulted by those
    planning trips to the area.

    April 22 "Friends of Gettysburg" Annual March for Gettysburg

    A fund-raising walk for battlefield preservation sponsored by the
    Gettysburg Foundation. To register, call the Gettysburg Foundation at
    (717) 338-1243.

    May 5 Doors Open Gettysburg

    Visit a number of historic buildings, on the battlefield and in town,
    that are normally closed to the public. Held in conjunction with the
    Gettysburg Foundation. Free. For information contact the call the

    May 28 Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies

    140th Annual Memorial Day observances. Parade at 2 p.m. followed by a
    ceremony in the Soldiers' National Cemetery.

    June 2 Annual "Friends of Gettysburg" Volunteer Work Day

    Sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation. For information and to
    register call the Gettysburg Foundation at (717) 338-1243.

    June 9 Interpretive Summer Season Begins

    Includes a full range of FREE Ranger conducted programs, walks,
    tours, campfire programs, living history programs, children's
    programs and Battle Walks offered everyday through August 11. ( These
    dates are subject to change).

    June 16 Greater Gettysburg Brass Band Festival

    The Wildcat Regimental Band will present a workshop on the history of
    the American Brass Band Movement, along with a grand concert in the
    afternoon at the Cyclorama Center. The Band of the California
    Battalion will present a concert at the Pennsylvania Memorial in the
    evening. Free.

    July 1-3 144th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg

    A series of special National Park Service Ranger-Conducted Battle
    Walks. Free.

    August 11 Last day of the Interpretive Summer Season

    August 25 13th Annual Civil War Music Muster

    Civil War brass bands, fife
    and drum and parlor music are presented in concert on the Cyclorama
    lawn followed by a concert at the Pennsylvania Monument in the early
    evening. Free.

    September 15-16 World War II Weekend

    A living history encampment at the Eisenhower National Historic Site.
    Featuring Allied soldiers, a German camp, and World War II vintage
    jeeps and trucks. Saturday, 9-5; Sunday, 9-4. Included in site
    admission. Both shuttle service and, weather permitting, on-site
    parking available this weekend only.

    November 17 Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremonies

    An annual event held in conjunction with the Gettysburg Address
    anniversary. A parade of Civil War living history groups begins at
    1:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

    5th Annual Remembrance Illumination, Soldiers' National Cemetery
    Sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation. Luminary candles will be
    placed on each Civil War grave as a testament to the sacrifices made
    here in 1863. For information contact the Gettysburg Foundation at
    (717) 338-1243.

    November 19 144th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address

    An annual
    observation with brief memorial services in the Soldiers' National
    Cemetery at 9:45 a.m.. Sponsored by the Lincoln Fellowship of
    Pennsylvania.

    December 1-31 An Eisenhower Christmas

    The Eisenhower home is decorated in the traditions of the
    Eisenhowers. Some original decorations and Christmas cards will be on
    display. Included in site admission. (717) 338-9114.

    Thanks for all the info, Buffalo-Guard.

    I can add one item to the list.

    On March 31, the Gettysburg Campus of the Harrisburg Area Community College will be hosting a Civil War seminar.

    There will be a keynote presentation by Robert K. Krick, entitled "Some Reflections on General James Longstreet's Attitude." This is followed by classroom sessions and afternoon LBG-led tours of the battlefield. The seminar is not free (cost is $49), but lunch and a continental breakfast are both included in the price.
