Hi,
Do you guys assemble in that field in front of that hill that overlooks Franklin or around the Carter House itself? There's not much that isn't developed at Franklin.
Gary
Submitted for your perusal. For those who are interested, here is a very good online book about the Battle of Franklin and the subsequent ordeals in a yankee prison by a man from my county.

It sure is! And are you lil steve from Fields?lol I am counting on us meeting up at the re-enactment and and you showing me around the area afterwards. You have to as otherwise I will spend alot of time getting lost, as I am directionally challenged sometimes, Ok, alot of the time!I decided that I definitely have to go down to Shiloh even tho you tried to talk me into checking out all the stuff around there. I think I can do both, as I will be taking 16 days total.
At my RT meeting last Monday I picked up some Civil War mags from the free table( I took, like 5, such a hog!) A friend also brought me quite a few old issues of Civil War Times. Anyway, the Feb. 1998 issue of Civil War Times has a GREAT article on Franklin, Called A Setting for Disaster. There is a picture of the Carter House and one of Carnton. There is also a great-looking article on Pat Cleburne, which I haven't read yet.I am embarrassed that I kniw almost nothing about the battle of Franklin/ Nashville. What I have read about them was in books on a lot of battles and I always get lost in so many of the western battles.Plus, it was years ago. Wasn't there one battle in the west where both sides were entrenched close to one another and one entrenchment caught on fire during the battle and many men were burned alive? And no, I am not thinking of the Wilderness!
I haven't gotten to the Franklin book I bought at the Seminar that I told you about, but I will. I'm still in Sears' Gettysburg. What else should I read? Nashville and Springhill? I also want to re-familiarize myself on Shiloh.
Nancy
Yes Ma'am it isI will do what I can right now I know its going to be quite a buay event.
I going to try and help out with School Days which will be Wednesday thru Friday. There will be a small battle Friday afternoon, The Spring Hill battle will be sat day and Franklin that late afternoon. The Battle of Nashville will be sun afternoon..
Yes after 5 tragic hours read Swords book: The Last Hurrah: the Battles of Spring Hill, Franklin and Nashville.
I believe I remember the Magazine you are referring to, but of course Civil War Times, Americas' Civil War as well as several others have done wonderfull articles on the battle.
Shiloh isnt to far away There are several good books on shiloh. right now their names escape me but perhaps some one else can give a suggestion.

Wow, Steve, I didn't know they were doing Spring Hill and Nashville too. But it makes sense being Franklin was just one day. I'm still in Gettysburg mode!
I meant that maybe you could show me around after the re-enactment.You mentioned plantations? I will be there the next week too.
Just watched and taped the WWII Memorial Dedication.
Nancy
