Default Buckner's Bodyguard?

My great-great-grandfather, Epaphroditus Burks, is listed in the records of the Confederate Home of Missouri as having been a private in Buckner's Bodyguard.

It was both shocking and astonishing to see his name show up when I googled it. My grandmother used to visit him at that home when she was a little girl. Apparently he died in 1906.

My grandmother grew up in Hannibal, Missouri. I know her grandmother was married twice. First to a Union soldier with the last name of Reynolds, and second to Epaphroditus.

I am wondering if Buckner might refer to Simon Bolivar Buckner, but aside from finding one or two other individuals listed as having served in Buckner's Bodyguard, I've not been able to find out anything else.

Would appreciate any help!

What about the name Buckner Guard a cavalry unit out of Kentucky.

This cavalry unit is mention in the book "This Astounding Close: The road to Bennett place by Mark Bradley" as the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry Battalion, Company B.

This unit is mention in "Longest Night by David Eicher" too.

I hope this is a lead...

That gives me a place to start. I think we did have a Kentucky connection. I wish my grandmother was still alive, so that I could ask her. She lived to be 95!

Thanks for the lead. I will check it out.
