Default George Amos

Seeking info re George Amos - WM - born abt 1815 in England. Was living in NY City when he supposedly joined the Union Army as a Butcher (was in late 40s), and supposedly was killed by a horse in Iowa. Have been unable to find any info. He, wife (Susan), and kids were listed in 1860 Fed NY, NY Census, and wife (as widow) and kids were listed in 1870 Fed NY, NY Census.

Can't help you Bob, but I do love the irony of a butcher being killed by a horse. Thanks.

Hang in here for a while, Bob. Someone will come up with something helpful. Nevermind Sam. He's notoriously playful.

Found one George Amos in the New York archives for the Civil War. He was in the 9OTH New York State Volunteer Infantry.

The 90th Served in Key West as a garrison force and later was transferred to to the 19th Corps in Lousiana and took part in the Siege of Port Hudson, Bayou Tourche and the Red River Campaign. Later it transferred to the Army of the Shenandoah fighting at Opeqoun, Fisher's Hill and Cedar Creek and ended the war garrisoning Savannah.

I couldn't acess the complete record on this Geo Amos with out purchasing the pension records so don't know if he's yours or not but I guess it's a fair place to start.
