Hi Sherri, here is a website that will help:

http://pw2.netcom.com/~buck1755/14regiment.html

If you're interested in buying a regimental history of the 14th, here is a website to look at:

http://members.aol.com/jweaver300/grayson/howard.htm

I count a Virginia man as a direct ancestor, and many, many Virginian peripherals as well!

Sherri, the url listed will show you that the 14th regimental history was published by H.E. Howard and Son of Lynchburg, Virginia in 1995. Jeff Weaver is my cousin who has written 15 or so of these histories and is an excellent civil war scholar. He may be able to help with your company K though he didn't write the history. I have three of H.E. Howard's histories and all are extremely well detailed. Individual soldiers notes with the rosters are usually shown. Go also to Jeff's website NEW RIVER HISTORICAL NOTES.

Sherri, that is correct, it was the Dan River Rifles Personnel Of the Civil War William Fraynes Amann published 1961, 1964 by Yoseloff Press in NY. Civil War Soldiers and Sailors might have info as well. heres the url: www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/
Hope this is of help,
A fellow genealogy addict

Default 14th va inft reg at gettysburg

The 14th Virginia Infantry was at Gettysburg as part of Gen. Armistead's Brigade. According to "Longstreet's Assault - Pickett's Charge, The Lost Record of Pickett's Wounded," by Donald Frey, Armistead's Brigade lost 2188 / 48.3 %. I'm not sure, but my guess would be that these casualties could be about equally divided among the 5 regiments in the Brigade, but that would only be a guess. Best bet, as others have mentioned, get a hold of a regimental history of the 14th Virgina Infantry.

Regards, Dave Gorski

My great great grandfather was also in the 14th Va Company I. He didn't join the unit until he was conscripted in February 1864, so by then the home units were all jumbled up. Company I was started as a Chester unit, but my great great grandfather was from out in the West Point area.

He wasn't paroled until June 25 at Ashland. Does this seem odd that someone would be held almost 2 months after the surrender?
