Default Looking for GGG Grandfather

I am looking for information about my GGG Grandfather, Baker L. Wiggins. He served in the CSA, 1st Regiment, South Carolina, Orr’s Rifles, Company H or B. He was Killed near Richmond in 1864. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Default McGowan's Brigade

I am not sure whether you've checked these or not, but you should look at:

"The History of a Brigade of South Carolinians, known first as "Gregg's" and subsequently as "McGowan's brigade."

by J F J Caldwell

This one was written by one of McGowan's staff officers, much of it while the fighting was still going on. In fact, if you ever visit Pamplin Historical Park, near Petersburg, Va, you can see the room in which Caldwell worked. Also, the park contains most of the lines occupied by the brigade for most of the latter parts of the campaign.

Also, dealing with the South Carolina brigade is:

"Lee's Sharpshooters or, The Forefront of Battle- A story of southern valor that never has been told"

by William S Dunlop

This was written by the commander of the sharpshooter battalion for Sam McGowan's Brigade. This unit was composed of detailed men from the regiments who displayed superb marksmanship and proven courage. Something of a Civil War-era "special forces."

Also, I know the Museum of the Confederacy has at least one good, unpublished, diary of a South Carolinian in the brigade (I read through it in their library one day), though at the moment, I do not have access to my notebooks to give you further information.
Hope some of that may be of help to you!
Cheers and Fairwinds,
Brett Silver
