Default Francis M. Waters 7th TN Mounted Infantry

Doing research on my ancestors has been a fascinating hobby for quite some time. My great, great, great grandfather Francis Marion Waters served in the 7th TN Mounted Infantry Regiment (US). After receiving this information, I contacted the Veterans Administration for a government headstone for his gravesite. I'm very pleased that I had been able to do this for my grandmother's family.

Francis Waters enlisted in March 1865. His family resided in Fannin County, GA. For those that are not familiar with this area, it is situated on the GA/TN/NC line. During the war, this area suffered through depredations by bushwhackers such as John P. Gatewood, as well as the Confederate "Home Guards." Based on what I've read, the Waters family in this area were strong Unionists. Posted below is a photograph of Francis' marker.

Congratulations on the successful completion of your marker effort. I've been working this year on a request for one of my Confederates, Pvt. Whitfield Monroe Parker of the 63rd VA Inf. Hopefully we'll get this done soon. These men certainly deserve some notice of their service.

Thank you for your kind words, Larry. Let us know how your marker project goes. It seems like the hardest part was waiting on the marker to arrive. I believe F.M Waters' marker took around 6 months to arrive.

I would also like to get a CS marker for a ggg great uncle, Benjamin Ensley who served in the 11th GA Inf. He was captured near Dandridge, TN in 1864 and spent the remainder of the war at Rock Island.
