In the spring/summer of 63 3rd IA VI cover 118 miles in three days. Pace appears to have been about 5 miles an hour w/ a 10 min or so break every hour. Tough boys.
Few take the trouble to understand or to view the American scene with perspective. And we Americans love to find ourselves guilty of something. However, it is never I who am guilty, but those other Americans, the past or present government or the other political party. Americans almost never find other countries guilty. It is always ourselves or our fancied influence in other countries. Louis L'amour

Well, it's taking place this Sunday and I'm looking forward to it. I've been building up the miles, both in mufti and in kit, and am feeling prepared for it. The brogans haven't been too sore on the feet in the way that I feared they would be, and save for a couple of straps that need adjusting to stop them digging into my shoulder the accoutrements haven't been too bad either. The one thing I haven't been able to practice, for obvious reasons, is going the distance with the musket. I don't think it will be too onerous, as I've found at events that most positions are surprisingly comfortable, especially if we change from time to time.

As for the charitable part (we're doing it to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, a veterans' charity): we passed our target of £4,500 a couple of weeks ago and are now just below £5,000, which is amazing.

Thanks for the advice on this thread, it's been very useful. I'll let you know how we get on.

Oh, yes, a report on what you learn from the march can be very beneficial to others who might endeavor to try something similiar in the future.

Good luck, Oxkern! Happy marching, kudos to your cause! I wait with bated breath to hear your tales (I can bate my breath because I still have some, not using it up marching around in brogans!)
