I know of some Confederate Marines units. Some with a good impression others that are very poor.

I am not a re-enactor. I do however have a great interest in the uniform and dress of the C.S.M.C. It is a subject over which I have spent many sleepless nights! So what do you want to know?

Comrade, you should attend the Annual Conference of The Company of Military Historians this April 15-17 in Reston, Virginia (near Dulles and between the airport and Fairfax). The administrator, David Sullivan, is the expert on marines, both Union and Confederates. He wrote several books and I'll be happy to introduce you to him. 'Gwine and you may use me as your sponsor.

    Atkins,

We have a group putting together a CSMC ship's guard. It is for a specific ship. After a lot of research we found that they wore uniforms that didn't exactly meet the CSMC standard in color. They wore the Peter Tate blue/gray frock and white summer trousers and light blues winter trousers. James Bullock purchased the equipment from William Collie to outfit the ship's guard. They used English accoutrements.

The CSMC fought not only on ships, but in land battles as well. Very interesting subject. I've been studying the CW for many years and never really looked into the CSMC until a few guys wanted to do that impression for a small group.

There are a few CSMC units if you Google them and some good information as well as books on the subject.

    Good luck

An admirable endeavor, IrishReb. Would like to hear more as the unit develops. Don't know nothin' about Reb marines, so this is unplowed ground for me.

Ralph Donnelly's book The Confederate States Marine Corps, Rebel Leathernecks is a pretty good source, as is David Sullivans series on the USMC in the ACW.
