The Following is a listing of civil war related events from re enactments to memorials for the month of April


APRIL 6-8 –Virginia – 142nd Anniversary of the Battle of Little Sailor’s Creek
Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historic State Park, Amelia. Reenactors will fight on the original 321-plus acres of the battlefield at Sailor’s Creek where Gen. Robert E. Lee lost a quarter of his army. All proceeds benefit Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park.

APRIL 6-8 – Florida – 7th Annual Ladies Encampment Ft. Clinch.
Join the ladies for a full three days of workshops, speakers and discussions geared towards expanding your knowledge, improving your impression and fellowshipping with other ladies in the hobby.

APRIL 7 – Indiana – Calumet Region Military Show
Crown Point. Lake County Fair Grounds. A quality show will feature items from all era. Dealers will be buying, selling, trading and appraising relics of all types. Food on site.

APRIL 7 – Florida – Confederate Ball
Miramar Civil Center, Miramar. The Phoebe Pember chapter of the Order of the Confederate Rose will be having a Confederate Ball at 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person or $40 per couple. After the buffet dinner, there will be music and dancing so everyone brush up on your Virginia Reel.

Both Union and Confederate reenactors are welcome.

APRIL 7 – Washington - “Honoring Their Memory”
Snohomish. Memorial Ceremony by the Snohomish Washington Civil War Association at the Snohomish G.A.R. Cemetery, 8601 Riverview RD, Snohomish, WA.

APRIL 7 – Arkansas - Confederate Heritage Day
Little Rock. Event will be held at 11:30 am Saturday on the Arkansas State capitol grounds.

The event is a celebration of three separate events: Arkansas Confederate History and Heritage Month, Confederate Memorial Day and Confederate Flag Day. Sponsored the Arkansas Division SCV.

The ceremony will start at Noon and last about 40 minutes. All branches of military and period impressions welcome. There will be flag displays, honor guard performing salutes to the honored soldiers that wore the gray from Arkansas, and a guest speaker to be announced later.

Civilian and ladies' welcome. Walks on must to be at site before 11:00 am on the 7th.

APRIL 12-15 – Alabama – Battle of Selma Reenactment
Selma. Recreate Forrest’s spring of 1865 attempt to defend Selma from the onslaught of Wilson’s Raid. Freshly modified and renovated period-correct fortifications.

Upgraded camp sites and roadways. Enhanced pyrotechnics. Saturday evening Grand Ball at Historic Sturdivant Hall featuring both brass and string bands. Sunday morning memorial service at Live Oak Cemetery. Visit www.battleofselma.com for registration information.

APRIL 13-14 – Alabama – Sultana Descendants Reunion
Athens. Greatest maritime disaster in US history, the paddlewheeler Sultana exploded on April 27, 1865 killing an estimate 1,700 passengers. The ship was loaded with numerous recently paroled Union POWs from Andersonville and Castle Morgan Prison (Cahawba, Alabama).

The reunion is “open” to descendants of survivors and any one else interested in War Between the States history. Gene Salecker and Jerry Potter, the authors of the latest Sultana books, will be there.

The Sat. banquet will only cost $14.95: Lodging will be on your own. There are a variety of motels at the primary Athens exit (No. 351) off I-65. Here is a partial list: Best Western, Budget Inn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Super 8, and Town & Country.

You might contact the local Chamber of Commerce at 256/232-2600 for more information. The banquet and bus costs need to be prepaid for a total of $24.95.

APRIL 13-15 – Tennessee - 2nd Annual Skirmish at the Ramsey House.
Knoxville. Scenic 1797 stone house on 100+ acre grounds near the forks of the French Broad River and Holston River. Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, Medical, Sutlers and Civilians invited. $3.00 registration fee or $10.00 family cap. Usual Amenities. Battles both days. Bounty for 1st four full size artillery pieces.

APRIL 13-15 - North Carolina – Salisbury Prison Symposium
Salisbury. 10th Annual Salisbury Confederate Prison Symposium sponsored by the Robert F. Hoke Chapter No. 78, United Daughters of the Confederacy. "Reunion of Descendants and Friends" and "Banquet with Lecture" on Friday. Lectures and vintage baseball game on Saturday.

Public invited to Memorial Services and.vintage baseball game on Sunday. Scheduled lecturers include: Dr. Gary Freeze, Catawba College, on prison structures; Dr. Mike McCully, High Point University, on Prison Life 1862; Lonnie Speer, author, on Black POWs; and Eric Laudenbacher, vintage baseball historian, on Baseball 1861-1865;

Bill Kissel of NY and Peter Kissel of DC, descendants, on POW ancestor ; Tom Perry, J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace, on Stoneman’s Col. Palmer; and Geoffrey Ryder, M.D., descendant, on prisoners’ PTSD. Special guests include the Ohio Village Muffins vintage baseball team of Columbus.

APRIL 13-15 – Florida – The Anclote River Raid
Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, New Port Richey. Friday is School Day, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Guides and stations meet at sutlers row at 9 a.m. Ladies tea will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

All are welcome. Shuttles will run to and from the Nature Center. Saturday battle is at 2 p.m. with a Kids Battle at 5 p.m. and evening skirmish. Commanders will communicate details.

There will be a Saturday night ball, beginning at 8 p.m. All are welcome. Sunday will have church services, kids gift exchange and treasure hunt and 2 p.m. battle. Cabins are available at 2 p.m. the day of arrival and must be reserved and paid for 30 days prior.

Sutlers must pre-register and must have period correct tents and merchandise and are subject to approval. Ideal grounds for cavalry with 14 miles of riding trails. Corrals will be available early. Coggins papers on all animals are required to be shown at registration. Living History Demonstrations throughout the weekend. In town gun fights, hanging, skirmishes all day, pickets are suggested to be posted.

APRIL 14 – South Carolina – Firing on Ft. Sumter: The Opening Ball
Spartanburg. War fever sweeps the Palmetto State, and her citizens celebrate yesterday’s capitulation of Sumter with an elegant dinner and ball. Come to South Carolina’s Upstate and join our recreation of the patriotic fervor following the surrender of Major Anderson’s garrison.

Period dancing to live music, led by experienced dance masters, in a majestic setting of soaring ceilings and hardwood floors. Military or civilian dress of the early war is strongly encouraged.

APRIL 14 – Mississippi – 15th Annual Civil War Show
Battlefield Inn, Vicksburg. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission: $2. Fifty tables featuring dug relic, weapons, accoutrements, coins, documents, books, prints, bottles, memorabilia and artillery shells, which must be disarmed. Dealers six-foot tables are $35 each. Limit three.

APRIL 14 – Georgia – Historical Society Lecture Series
Kennesaw. The Story of the Great Locomotive Chase, 2-3 p.m. Chase the history of the famous locomotive the General and the story that made it famous.

The event is free of charge. Visitors who would like to tour the Museum before or after the lecture should enter through the front entrance.

APRIL 20-22 - West Virginia – NCWAA School of the Piece
Jackson's Mill. Learn the latest artillery drill focusing on a high level of safety and attend the NCWAA National Meeting at Jackson's Mill near Weston, W.Va. It is not necessary to bring a cannon and we offer on site camping or dorm rooms are also available.

APRIL 21 – Tennessee – Civil War Role-Playing Game
Nashville. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Travellers Rest Plantation & Museum 636 Farrell Parkway. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students (ages 6 to 18), and free for children under 6.

Recommended for children ages 12 and older. Stations throughout the Travellers Rest grounds will represent an aspect of life in Union-occupied Nashville. Families or individuals must perform tasks to earn a pass to the next station.

Along the way, guests will encounter Union sentries, Confederate smugglers, bushwhackers, Army recruiters and tradespeople who may or may not help their cause.

At the final station a re-enactor playing Andrew Johnson, military governor of Union- occupied Tennessee, will ultimately determine each player’s fate. For more information, call (615) 832-8197 or e-mail rob@travellersrestplantation.org.

APRIL 21-22 – Pennsylvania – Ball & Fashion Show
Scranton. The Lackawanna Historical Society and the Delaney Delacy Guard, Sons of Veterans Reserve proudly announce the 3rd annual Grand Civil War Ball and Vintage Fashion Show & Tea on Saturday and Sunday. Dance will be precepted by Martha Griffin and music provided by Spare Parts.

APRIL 21-22 – Maryland – On to Richmond
Essex. The 1st Maryland Artillery would like to invite you to our annual event held at the historic Stansbury House along the banks of the Back River. This year featured battles will be the 145th Anniversary of the Seven Days battles with a non-spectator battle Saturday night. Registration is limited to 200 US and 150 CS to insure proper force ratios.

Because of scenarios, no Dismounted Cavalry unless you can portray infantry. Artillery and Mounted Cavalry is by invitation only. Campaign and Garrison camping. Looking for Medical impressions for evening candlelight tour for a hospital scenario. Sutler fee is $25. Registration is $6 with check or money order made payable to the 1st Maryland Artillery.

Pre-registration deadline is April 5th. After April 5th is $10. Walk-on is $10 but must prepare to do either US or CS as needed.

APRIL 21 – Virginia – Confederate Heritage Parade
Richmond. The Virginia Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans will host a Confederate Heritage Parade, starting at 200pm. The parade will include members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans from around the country as well as Confederate re-enactors and representatives from various other Confederate heritage organizations like the United Daughters of the Confederacy. There will be marching units, horse cavalry units, artillery pieces, 1860’s military bands and modern day motorcycles from the Confederate Mechanized Cavalry. There will be a special attraction at the General Robert E. Lee Monument on Monument Avenue to commemorate his 200th birthday. The parade will begin promptly at 200pm at DMV Drive, go west on Broad St., then left on the Boulevard, then left on Monument Ave which will become Franklin Street, then right on Harrison Street and finally left on Idlewood Street into Hollywood Cemetery. At Hollywood Cemetery, there will be a short program including bagpipe music at the Confederate section of the cemetery concluding with musket and cannon firing.

APRIL 27-29 – Kentucky – Battle of Eddyville
Eddyville. Located in western Kentucky on Highway 62. School day Friday, Spectator battles Saturday and Sunday.

Reenactor registration – advanced $5.00 per person prior to April 1. Registration at the gate or after April 1 is $10.00 per person.

APRIL 27-29 – Louisiana – 16th Battle of Jackson Crossroads
Jackson. The host unit for this year’s event will once again be the 6th Louisiana Infantry Co. F. The battle site is located on Highway 68, Jackson. On Friday will be the educational demonstration “Step Back In Time…The Louisiana Experience” and will take place for local students beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday morning several events are scheduled at the battlefield. There will be a cannon bounty paid for the first 20 fully manned guns; check our Web site for details. The great spy chase and gold robbery is planned for early morning at the Old Hickory Railroad. The main battle will commence at 2:30 p.m. We will also have a night artillery fire planned for dusk. Be sure to visit the way station for an evening social. The Battle of Jackson Crossroads is open to all organized Civil War reenactment units. Pre-registration is required to assure accommodations as well as your meal ticket for the Saturday night meal.

APRIL 27-29 – California – Battle of Red Bluff
Red Bluff. The Reenactors of the American Civil War (RACW) will sponsor the Dog Island event. This event is set in a scenic park on the banks of the Sacramento River. Friday is a School Day, with area 8th Grade students touring the camps for a look at life in 1863. Saturday and Sunday feature battles and living history.

Bensalem. Annual living history and reenactment at Neshaminy State Park. APRIL 27-29 – Virginia – Civil War Weekend
Buchanan. Living History encampment and demonstrations in the middle of town by the Virginia Sons of Confederate Veterans, merchants and towns people in Civil War period clothes, three days of Civil War movies on the big screen starting Friday April 27, demonstrations by the United Daughters of the Confederacy of what went on "back home" during the War, an address to the troops by Robert E. Lee, carriage rides, historic tours and a few surprises, cannons on both sides of the James River to simulate the" Battle of Buchanan", grassy camp sites on the James River free to SCV members.

Sutlers are welcomed at no charge. Easy access north and south to Interstate 81.

APRIL 28-29 – Indiana – 144th Morgan’s Raid
Vernon. 144TH anniversary of Gen. John Hunt Morgan's raid through southern Indiana. Civil War living history, Battle on Saturday & Sunday, Blue-Gray Ball with time period band and dance caller, citizens defend Vernon as Gen. Morgan demands the towns surrender. Gen. Lew Wallace is sent to Vernon, bringing federal troops to confront Morgan in July of 1863. Talk with Gen. Wallace at his headquarters in the house and room that he chose. Camp in the beautiful historic Vernon. Ham & beans, cornbread, hot-dogs will be provided at mess tent for Saturday lunch. Water, straw, firewood, restroom facilities. Modern camping available nearby. No fees for sutlers or re-enactors.Pre-register by March 1st. All proceeds from this event will be used to present, preserve and document the history of Jennings County and Indiana and provide history programs for local school age children.

APRIL 28-29 – Mississippi – Fight for the Streets of Corinth
Corinth. The Col. W.P. Rogers Camp #321 Sons of Confederate Veterans is again organizing a two day event to commemorate Confederate Memorial Day and the sacrifices made by our ancestors. We would like for you and your fellow compatriots to join with us in these weekend activities. Camp on the grounds of the Historic Verandah-Curlee House. There will be an opportunity to skirmish in the streets where the actual fighting took place in October 1862.

The battle of Corinth is one of only a few battles where house to house fighting took place. You will get to experience this fighting on the same ground where it originally took place. We will furnish firewood, water, and supper Saturday night. There will be period music, a large display of Confederate flags, and a large Civil War relic display.

A memorial service at historic Battery Robinette on Sunday honoring our Confederate ancestors will highlight the weekend. We need for you to help us honor and pay respect to all the Confederate soldiers who fought and died for the cause that they believed in. All activities are free to all attendees and participants.

Camp Douglas Annual Memorial Service, April 29, 2007 starting 11 a.m. at Confederate Mound, Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago.
