Default Leech and Rigdon revolver

I hope this is the right area for this-I am new to black powder shooting and I have a Uberti copy of the Leech and Rigdon Colt navy 1851.When you load a black powder revolver do most people use a patch under the ball to prevent cross detenation or do most people use a lube like bore butter over the loaded cylinder? I have had a hard time finding patches for 36 caliber. Also I have found 36 cal balls(.350 Dia) and .375 dia balls.I'm not sure which I'm supposed to use.I would think the .375 for the tight bore fit.Help
