Post Tourist coming to Reenactments

When I firat started reenacting 3 years ago, the battles were the best part. But now I see its not all about the battles its about teaching people about The War Between the States.I still love the battles dont get me wrong, but Its just fun when you get to drill kids or show them the guns and the tents and everything else. This past year at Liendo Plantation Civil War Weekend in Hempstead Texas, it was a whole weekend and on school day (my parents let me skip school that day, Im not a drop out!)
I spent the whole day drilling the kids I was having as much fun as they were!! Its always a joy to see the intriesting faces of the tourists!
I hope yall fell the same way.

Looks like we have a History Teacher in the making,

That would be a great thing, to many of our History teachers don't have a passion for the teaching of true history..

There are to many Coaches that teach History because they have to have a class besides sports teams, not because they have a passion for the subject.

Enjoy their smiles and their glee, for when a subject is presented by someone with a passion, it makes it personal a joy to learn

I know what you mean by coaches teaching in my highschool in my grade (9th grade) I have 4 out of my 7 teachers are coaches! It really stinks becuase they dont really teach anything then it comes to the finals...

yah when I hope to become a history teacher after college I want to do alot of living history presentation's to the kids so they get a first hand look, and something they wont get out of a history book.

As a note, quite a few History teaches are offered the extra $ a coaching position offers, especially if they are male...

You're right though about many not having any interest... I've met a "history" teacher that couldn't tell me when the CW was. Scares me.

I guess even you northern folks have read Gen. Stephen D. Lee's charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans? I believe we owe it to a few hundred thousand men to pass on the story to these kids as accurately as possible.

Default Student displays

One of the main reasons I drive 9 hours to Hartford City Indiana every October is for Student Day. It means an extra 2 days off work but it's worth it. I take along a display of Canadians in the Civil war. More often than not I get more responce from the teachers than the students. Few realize how many British North Americans came across the border illegaly to participate in the war. It's always nice to see the surprised looks on their faces, especially when they hear how many Canadians won the Medal of Honor!
