Default Shoes (I hate em)

Does anyone know where I can get modified shoes that will pass for brogans that are built for people with slight disibilities in mind. I don't know exactly how to put this. Well I could post this thingy here, this is what I have a slight disorder of the legs that involves tight tendons in both legs, and makes it very taxing to walk long distances and I'm looking for a shoe that will give me all the help I can get.

Thanks.

Do you require leg braces or inserts? Both can be done by a competant cobler. I know of an individual who has a major issue w/ his feet, not sure of the exact term but one leg is several inches shorter than the other, but he had a cobbler remove the leather soles on his Fugawee brogans and put on special rubber pieces that allowed him mobility.

Some of the smaller brogan makers will custom make shoes as well, it is well worth giving the manufacturer a call. It all depends upon just how the footware needs to be modified.

Good Luck

I am attempting to begin reenacting and my biggest fear is the brogans. I have pretty bad bunions, is there a shoe that has supple leather out there?

One option is to order the shoes direct from the maker and ask for rubber soles instead of wood. Remember to request a leather color though. Once they're broken in brogans are as supple as any good pair of leather boots.

Default them shoes

I got my brogans from Jarnagin's. They are authentic down to the wooden pegs. I took the drastic measure. I oiled them up and wore them for an entire day. Dr Scholl's helped, too. They are now very comfortable; but I cannot wear them and walk on asphalt or concrete. Not because of my feet; but because it would tear up my shoes. Besides there were no asphalt or concrete roads during the Civil War.

Default Breaking in brogans

What you might consider is gettting a of pair brogans that feels loose enough to be comfortable. Then put them on, stand in a creek untill they are completely soaked and then wear them until they dry. They will basically form fit to your foot. Soemtimes I have a bit of a problem with the sole hurting my feet, but the uppers never bother me.

Hope this helps,

Try Gettysburg, but try not to bring on a general engagement.

I laughed at your dry humor reminiscent of your namesake.
