I wear a Hardee that has seen better days and as I can find no evidence that the 4th MN VI ever received any but the barest issue of Forage caps for the entire war. In fact my hat has evolved or devolved depending upon how you look a things. As my impression has begun to concentrate more upon one of Shermans men the brass and polish of my uniform has passed and faded. THough, my weapon is meticulously clean and maintained.

I don't think you'd look good in any of the hats I make, but I have put a few gentlemen in them in jest and they look quite dapper!
But as a lady, I love the riding hats! They are so nice and sassy looking!
Sorry, I only make frilly ladies things. Not the slouch hat. That is kind of a beat up looking cowboy hat, typically worn by cavalry, but I have seen artillary guys wear it as well.
As for my hats, go to the re-enactors picture area. I just posted a couple more pics there tonight and the hat that my mom is wearing and the one I am wearing are both that I made.
Sorry, but unless you want a hat with flowers and feathers on it, manly hats can be bought at the sutlers. But I am always on the hunt for hats at the local thrift stores. Wool and felt ones espeically. I have a slew of straw, but wool and felt I'm running low on. Once I find them, no matter what they look like before I get a hold of them, they don't look the same afterwards. Oh, and I don't do bonettes. I look horrible in the things, so I stay away from them.
