When I was at Gettysburg, my husband and I experienced several happenings that we cannot explain that would make any sense to anyone else. While in Civil War reenactment attire or at a reenactment of a battle or some event from the Civil War, have any of you ever experienced something unusual or strange that may have occurred that you really could not explain to anyone? If you have ever had that experience, please let me know as i am writing a book about these occurrences. Your submission to me is entirely confidential. I will not talk about these incidences out of my book. No names will be used unless you tell me it is all right. I have written articles before on Civil War women for our newspaper, so I am published. I am also the Department Sr. Vice President for the Department of Ohio, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. If any of you would care to send me your story, please do. Send to me at my e-mail address or P. O. Box 913, Port Clinton, OH 43452. If you wish to be anonymous, your name on your letter to me is necessary, but your name or ID would not be published. Thank you for your help.

Jan I have been to several NPS sites and spent the night on the field of two of CW battlefields... my own opinion is that most of the ghost stories come from overactive imaginations and sometimes from the odd re-enactor w/ a sense of humor. THere is a feeling of history at each site, who can deny feeling something at the Bloody Pond, Peach Orchard, Bloody Angle etc.

That said I have little doubt that with such suffering death and intense emotion I can see it as possible that if anything would have a spirit trapped there it would be a CW battlefield. BUt I think the majority of ghost stories are just that, stories.

Good Luck

Default Well

At the 135th Gettysburg I witnessed an apparition of a man and a woman. Oh, sorry. That was the tent with the candle backlighting the couple having fun.

Sorry

I have a friend that did a great deal of reenacting when he was stationed in Virginia. He was a US Marine in command of a company and a very typical Texan. He was fairly tall. At one re-enactment, the two sides were to march toward each other and come to a halt at arms length from each other.

Being tall, he was at the very end of the line, opposite the shortest person on the opposing side.

To his surprise, upon coming to a halt, he was opposite the first sergeant of his Marine company! He said the two of them fell into each other's arms and cried their eyes out.
