Default New Recruit

Greetings Everyone!

I've been checking out the website for some time now & finally signed up. Within the past year I've taken the dive into the Civil War ocean and hope to become a sponge. It looks like I found a place to call home for awhile!

I will probably ask more questions than offer any insight, but there is certainly nothing wrong with that. I look forward to reading your posts and clicking on your links.

My main hobby is playing guitar/songwriting. Inspired by some Civil War stories/quotes, I've recently written a couple of songs with a "Civil War" theme. If I ever produce a decent recording, I'd like to share them with you someday. Someday...

Sincerely,
Given to Fly

A song! A song! Give us a song, boyo!

Welcome to the forum. Always good to have another sponge.

Dear Given_to_Fly;

Welcome to the Civil War Talk forums!

Please feel at ease and post when you feel right about it. There are so many gifted people here; you will find that people will want to learn from those who have the knowledge to do so.

And, since Timewalker didn't say 'which' song to play -- I am rather partial to "Goober Peas." When I'm a bit down--it cheers me up. The other is "Turkey and Chicken in the Straw." Amazing what flutes can produce.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted,
M. E. Wolf

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. I've attached a link for my first song I'd like to share.

It was written from a mother's perspective after losing her son at Gettysburg. I have grand plans to add some strings or some other instrument down the road. So here it is..warts and all...

You can just click on the link to play, no need to download it.

Lyrics are below the link. Let me know what you think...

http://www.4shared.com/account/file/...l_Measure.html

THE LAST FULL MEASURE

The clouds in my head
Swirl around in black

I can’t even find the words
to get out of this pen

But somewhere down the road
maybe I’ll understand

When the silence breaks across the fields
And I can finally hear

Doesn’t make sense to me
How can we disagree?
When the last full measure came upon
and now I have no one

CHORUS
It’s been a Long Road
Giving it All for you
Taking it All from Me

To stand the test of time
Out there on the line

When the footprints are the very last thing
that you’ll ever see

Like a diamond in the sky
Simple as it may seem

Bright as the morning sun
But it only shines from above

Now the memories are all I have
Precious and so few

The last full measure seems to be
Devoted without you

CHORUS

When will it ever end?
When can we understand?

If the last full measure comes upon
and there’s nothing there

Really hot dang, Given. I could hear the music behind those lyrics. That hasn't happened since Janice Joplain. I don't have to agree with it, Just hear it. Powerful stuff.
