Default Greetings from the old North State

Greetings all!

I am Mike Williams, the freshest of fresh fish. I have only just gotten interested in reenacting this time period, having spent the past 25 years in the colonial era. My interest is in the naval side of things and work with some really good folks that do both US and CS navy on the Carolina Coast. I look forward to learning a great deal on these forums.

How-do Mike. I have always thought the naval aspect was never given it's due; both the seagoing and brown water navies. Glad to have ya aboard!

Dear Mr. Will;

Welcome to the Civil War Talk Forums.

Please know that we (in general) are an inquisitive bunch, we (in general) learn from one another.

Please know that you are not pressed to make any quotas of posts, you will not be pressed to participate and or participate beyond your personal speed and or comfort levels.

There is a 'naught-type-text' filter on this list; to which at times people have to review their post in order to see the censor at work; then correct something with clever spacings, hyphens and the like. Even though these words are not 'dirty' in nature; in relationship to navel parts and propeller systems; it may be a bit frustrating; so wanted you to know its a built in system of keeping naughty bits from the forums--it even affects the moderators!!!! LOL

Just to see for myself -- [coughs and writes out a navel vessel's scr-ew]

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted,
M. E. Wolf

Welcome from Bryan, TX. Good to have you aboard. First I've heard about naval re-enactments - sounds quite interesting.

C'mon aboard, sailor!

Welcome to the board. We haven't had much discussion about the naval aspects of the war, though it is an area of fascination of mine. We look forward to your contributions.

Default Thanks for the warm wlcome

Morning Gents!

Thank you for the warm welcome. As I said, I am a life long lover of history, but in this time period I am a "stranger in a strange land" I don't know what I will be able to contribute right away, but rest assured, once I get my bearings I will join in.

Dp, there aren't many of us out there yet, but naval seems to be growing. The group I work with has about 15 men, consisting of common sailors, marines, engineers, and we even have a guy who is a expert on naval torpedoes (today what we call mines) You should see his collection of reproductions of the various types of "infernal machines" used in the war.

The group does a lot of work with Ft. Fisher S.H.S. and the Richard Caswell/C.S.S. Neuse S.H.S. here in North Carolina.

Once again, thanks for the welcome.

Welcome aboard Mike. Like yourself, I am also interested in the Revolutionary War (and also the French & Indian War).

Mike, you wil find some of the nicest, most knowledgeable people most willing to have a look at what you have to offer on this board.

Being from the tall grass prairies prairies, I wouldn't squat to talk about the Navy. But it seems that we have more than a few people who consider it important. Therefore, there must be something in there worth looking at. So let's hear it.

Good to have you aboard. Jump in whenever and wherever you feel comfortable. Most anything you have to say will be most welcome.
