Well, I'm Ryan, 15 years old. Thats all the personal info you will get out of me. Ever since I could remember I was interested in the American Civil War. My dad really got me into it, though at that young age I did not understand much. The only name I could understand then was Robert E. Lee, and even then it was just a name to me. As I grew older in both actual time, maturity, and knowlege, I began to take more interest in the war. I was intrigued when my dad told me about Solomon Moyer, my great, great, great, great, grandfather who served in the 96th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the Army of the Potomac. (Company K, 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Sedgwick's 6th Corp, or atleast thats how I remember it as) My two favorite Civil War Generals have to be James Longstreet (Commander of the 1st Corp of AoNV) and Winfield Scott Hancock (Commander of the 2nd Corp in the AoP. Deemed by George McClellan as Superb) If you need to know any more, I am open for discussion.
It is good to see a young person interested in the ACW. I was 35 when the Civil War bug bit me!
This is a great site. There is alot of info offered here from dedicated readers, researchers and hobbyists that otherwise would take many years and many books to find out on our own.
Getting exposed to different points of view on this site is a reminder that there is always more than one way to look at everything.
Don't let dry, uninteresting texts or teachers turn you away from history. If you find yourself getting bored with the CW, come back to this site for a booster shot!
Yah, my dad was rather old when he first got into it aswell.
Anyways, I do do a bit of research on my own. My 8th grade teacher didn't go over much, as I benefited more from doing my own work, or listening to my dad.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

I am always hesitant to ask a 15 year old what he considers "rather old."
Welcome to the board.

I hope you enjoy your time here and give us your views and opinions on our favorite period of history.
As a fellow Ohioian, I wish you well.
See you on the boards.
Sincerely,

Welcome! It's great to see young folk take the initiative and strike out to learn and read for their own interest and benefit. I remember when I was teaching, History of course, all excited about the day prospects, only to be disappointed because the majority of the lads just didn't enjoy it as much as I did. Never stop reading or learning for your own pleasure.
Welcome Ol'WarHorse. I'm rather new to this group too, but I think you'll find that you will learn a lot on this site. This is by far the best civil war forum that I've found.
My dad got me into it at a very young age too, and I'm very grateful that he did.
