Just joined. Civil War buff for 40 years. Great-Grandfather Co. K 14th Iowa Volunteers. Studied the Civil War ever since grade school. Always fantasized about a Civil War Vacation, traveling to some of the battlefields. I thought this would be a great place to learn more about ACW, and pick some brains about that vacation. Thanks, and the people here seem to be very knowledgeable and polite.
Welcome aboard. I've been to most Eastern battlefields and many in the midwest. I still have to get to Port Hudson, Mobile, Vicksburg, Perryville, Cornith, Iuka and a few others. Try to see one area at a time and really see it well. That way you can concentrate your reading to a specific campaign or battle and maximize your visit there. Fo instance, I spent about a week in Charleston, five days at Gettysburg, a week around Yorktown, another week in Richmond and a few days in Petersburg. Have fun.
Welcome, bones. I hope you someday realize your fantasy. I think many of us would share it.

Don't know where Beloit is, bones. But it must be a place where a new, 40-year student of the USCW resides.
You've joined the right group. We have some amazing scholars and otherwise knowledgeable and opinionated people. And we have a lot of fun just going back and forth on this and that.
Do pull up a chair and join us.

Welcome aboard. Lots of CW knowledge here and nice folk.
Dragged the poor wife around to more CW battlefields than she knew ever existed. Even though she is not a big fan, she is knowledgeable about them, and occassionally says, "Didn't we go there?"
Driving these great oldroads (stay off the interstates whenever possible) and visiting Civil War sites. Not bad!!!-------- RoadDog

Like other posted messages from other members; learning is a two way street. We, in a general sense all benefit from one another.
I shall be the first to admit, that I know some but not all. Where I faulter, others pick up and carry. In general, I do believe this to be the success of this list.
Please make your progress through this list at your own speed and comfort level. There are many forum titles and exploring them is interesting as well.
Just some thoughts.
