Default Hello from Texas

I just joined. I have been interested in the Civil War for several years now. I am a native Texan whose ancestors fought for the Confederacy. My husband is from Illinois.

Default Can't have enough Texans!

Hello, my name is Kelley, aka Bonny Blue Flag, from Texas. This is my first post!

Coming across this site is a real treat--it is not easy finding someone to speak history with much less getting someone to listen on the subject.

I was bit by the CW bug after inheriting an unusual journal created during 1863 to 1866.

Ada Sanders, my g-g-g maternal grandmother, cut out articles from newspapers, magazines and had a few post cards, then pasted them onto the pages of her father's farmer's almanac book using flour and water as the paste.

This created a journal, of sorts, with songs, poems, recipes, letters from the frontlines, a speech from Jefferson Davis, animal husbandry, etc, etc.

My mother is scanning this journal into her computer and I am creating the index.

Ultimately I envision a book that is an exact replica of the journal, to be used by anyone interested in the subject.

Welcome aboard! I had an ancestor in the 1st TX Cav. The family was from the Padre Island area. Are you familiar with that area?

Even Texans are welcome. Almost can't get enough of them.

Default Fellow Texan

I am from Waxahachie, which is about 33 miles south of Dallas. I grew up in East Texas, close to Tyler. Karen
