My name is David, and I'm a Civilwar-holic. I grew up in Texas where Crockett and Bowie were the heroes, not Lee and Grant. So I'm a relative newcomer to this addiction. When I moved to NC 8 years ago, I learned quickly how important the Civil War is to the state history here. And the interest just took off from there. I know Ole from another site that I'm a member of, and he suggested that I check this one out. I really like what I see so far.
I've been to Bentonville many times since I've been here since it is about an hour from my house. I've also been to Vicksburg, Gettysburg, Appomattox, and Fredricksburg.
So now that I've bored you with tales of me, I'm looking forward to participating in the site. While I've not been a junkie as long as many here, I'll try to make up for lost time.
To give you all an idea about where I am, I am reading the following just now:
1. The War Hits Home: The Civil War in Southeastern Virginia-There is a lot of family history here.
2. The Lees of Virginia-An excellent look at a very interesting family.
3. Pfanz's account of Cemetary and Culp's Hills at Gettysburg-When I went to Gettysburg I really didn't give this part of the battlefield enough time, so now I'm gonna have to go back. Darn!
Hi David. You will enjoy your stay here. What part of TX did you grow up at/in?
Ask questions, there are many people with much knowledge to share.
Matt

Welcome, although I question the sanity of any man who would leave the Great State of Texas for the wilds of back East.

Welcome to the forum and I really hope you will enjoy your time here.
Always glad to get some new insight or view on the many topics and subjects we debate here and I am looking forward to yours.
I had the honor to spend some time in the great State of Texas when I was with the military on assignment there. My wife, daughter and I love San Antonio when we were stationed at Bellows AFB and El Paso and Biggs Army Airfield. Great people who made us feel very welcome each time.
Again, welcome.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Welcome, David! You're a friend of Ole's? Well, we'll try not to hold that against you. Just kidding!
As you'd expect, Davy Crockett is very warmly remembered here in East Tennessee as well.
Hope you'll post often.
Regards,
John W.
Ole Davey lived here in Middle Tennessee for a spell 'til he went off to Texas. Too many wives and not enough votes. Welcome to the train, David! We won't blame you for Ole.
