Default Northern Virginia

Hello, I have lived in N.Va for the past 25 years. We are only a few miles from Bull Run and many other Civil War battlefields. I have been interested in Civil War History for many years, although I am not an expert. I have been reading posts here for a while and I am impressed by the depth of knowlege of the posters. I have visited Antietam and Gettysburg, both an easy drive from my home.

Lately I have become particularly interested in Picketts charge. I find it hard to believe that Lee just threw his troops against a stone wall . I have read Tom Carharts "Lost Triumph" and believe he has it at least partly right. If someone could direct me to a proper place to discuss this topic I would be grateful.

It is a pleasure to join with you on this forum.

Thank you

David:

You're in good company here; lots of good folks from Virginia, and lots of people who will leap at the chance to talk about Gettysburg.

There is a special forum for discussing Gettysburg, as well as a "War in the East" forum for working on everything else involving Lee. (I consider anything not under Lee's control to be "War in the West.")

If you've been on for a while, you've discovered that there's lots of Gettysburg discussions on Gettysburg in both the Gettysburg and "What If?" forums.

If you don't find anything in the archives (each forum lists the number of threads in that forum -- go back as early as you can stand and work your way forward), Just ask the question.

You will find discussions on Carhart's book, as well as Harman's. Test the water or jump in. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You can search for Carhart and Harman, but don't go looking for Pickett unless you have vacation time coming and no plans.

Come sit at the table.
