!stMD. Welcome aboard. Learn all you can and experience (reenacting) all you can. There is so much history to know and so little time (and money) and I think you will learn much from this site.
Matt
Thank you, and I plan on learning and learning. I have actually started studying a little more in depth by taking the time to read on my own.
This year will be rather light for me as I am still getting my feet wet, but I plan on branching out as I get more into reenacting.
I'm with you on that Blockaderunner. I can be a bounty-jumper or a professional shirker and deserter. The only real sol-jering I can do is that of a buttermilk ranger. Taking food from defenseless wimmen is easier that having to fight a real soldier.
BTW 1stMD, why not the 2nd MD battalion? The 1st wasn't around too long when it became the 2nd.

Truthfully, I joined the 1st because I met the people and they were extremely friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful. Also, proximity-wise it was the best unit for me and after looking at several units websites and speaking with members of the other units, I felt that the 1st would be a great place for me to start reenacting.
1stMD. The group you are with can make or break you experience(s). I reenact French and Indian War (I love flintlocks) and the group I have the pleasure to be with is almost like a family. We look forward to seeing/being with each other at events, everyone pitches in from the newbie to the captain. Lots of laughs. The best is at night around the cooler...I mean campfire :-) I imagine it is much the same in the civil war venue and I think you will find this to be a most memorable time!

I always thought I'd like to play the part of Lightning Ellsworth, unionblue. Do you know anything about them Dits and Dahs?
I think from our previous conversations you know that I do. I even taught "Dits and Dahs" for a few years to young Army recruits. You ever need advice on such an impression, I'd be happy to help out.
Oh, and by the way, welcome Maryland. Keep your head down and your powder dry.
Good advice, 1stMD, and once again, welcome.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Welcome aboard 1st MD! Tell Gary to remember John Bobbitt before he underestimates wimmen.
