As you're probably well aware, most of us Confederates and Yanks are descendants of Brits, Scots, and Krauts. You are us and we are what's left of you. At any rate, welcome to a fine collection of civil war enthusiasts. Lots of scholars here as well as folks like me!

Heh.

In my young, impressionable days (before I became a disillusioned cynic, but that's another story) I read a book called 'Bring Home the Revolution' by British journalist Jonathan Freedland. He argued that the British had their republican revolution, but they did it over there! In fairness, the book did make good points about political disengagement in the UK as opposed to the sense of ownership and oppurtunity in the US. Moreover, it was my first introduction to Tom Paine, whose work I still reach for when I need to remember what political passion is.
