Default Hi from NC

Hi, my name is Ric. Found this site out of sheer luck and have visited everyday since. My wife and I collect what we can and have visited Civil War sites in 6 differant states and plan just about every vacation near a site. Our favorite so far is Charleston, SC. If you haven't seen the Hunley then you should make plans. My wife was there for the burial at Magnolia cemetary. I opted to attend the Mustang 40th anniversary in Nashville and semi regretted since. Looking forward to posting in the future.

Welcome to the forum. You have picked a nice favorite. My father is retired from the navy and we were stationed in Charleston some a long period of time. It truly is a beautiful place. Seeing that it is getting to that time....post early and post often!

Charleston is indeed rich in history. It's even better than Yorktown as both cities played a role in the Revolution and in the Civil War. Personally, I feel there are more things in Charleston (though Yorktown if you consider the Historic Triangle, proxmity to Richmond, Fortress Monroe, Virginia Military Museum, Mariner's Museum (with the Monitor) and Petersburg has a lot to go for it too). Charleston has the Manigault House, the old Court House, The Battery, the City Museum, the Citadel, the Confederate Museum and the Washington Light Infantry. Nearby are Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, Hunley (North Charleston), USS Yorktown (CV), Seccessionville, Morris Island (if you can get there).

Hello, Ric from NC, and welcome to CivilWarTalk.

I hope to visit Charleston some day. Of course, coming from Pennsylvania, I would have to go through North Carolina to get to Charleston.

What are some of your favorite Civil War sites in your own state?

Hi Hoosier, I believe that my favorite in NC would have to be Bentonville though its about 4 hours from where I'm at. We viewed the reenactment there a few years ago and found it pretty good. While in Charleston you may as well go the extra miles to Fort Pulaski in Savannah. This has to be one of the nicest forts I've ever seen. I live in the foothills about 6 or 7 miles from Camp Vance near Morganton. My wife look forward to getting up to Gettysburg probably next year.
