Default Hello from COLD Minnesota

Greetings,
I have just joined in on all the fun! Any chance to connect with other reenactors and like minded history junkies during the off season.

My user name is Sarah1864, as a commemoration to my ggg grandmother who lost her husband in 1864. He was with the sixth missouri cav. I love CW history, and I love reenacting. When in a union scenario, I portray a nurse and cook for the Christian Commission. In a secess scenario, I portray a refugee or a woman caught in the middle of two armies just trying to save her house. (I really saw the elephant -a yankee reenactor really convinced me he was going to set fire to the historic house I was in!) Hope to chat with some of you!

Default Welcome to our camp.

So Sarah, pray tell us, how did you convince that Yankee vandal to desist from burning the house of a defenseless woman?

What unit are you w/ if I might ask? I've never burned a house down; honest. From the condition of your larder I really don't think either army believed you.

Sarah, very interesting interpretations you portray. It will be nice to have such a view/opinion from your point(s) of view.

Sarah:

Minnesota is cold in July. Hope you like winter sports. Happy to have you in on the discussions.

Welcome Sarah. Hope you like it here and share some of your reenactor's knowledge. There are a lot of them on this board. I lived in Rochester for 6 years. Thought I knew what cold was until I moved to MN...good gosh almighty. You Minnesotans are a hearty bunch for sure. (1st Minnesota at Gettysburg) I live right on the Mason-Dixon line now, where I was born. My gg granddad was in the 6th Illinois Cav. Rode with Grierson on his long journey into the southland. Good to have you with us, Sarah.

Gary,

I chased that blue belly out of my house like a house rat that he was, hitting him with my broom! My sister chased the other yankee out another door with a piece of fire wood threatening him with it. Our niece was feverishly closing and locking the windows, for those marauders were coming in through the windows. After all was calm, we implored with the officer of these soldiers to please place a guard at our gate. Such trying times!

Now, now Ms Sarah. I seem to recall there were quite a few tracks around that cabin that led the Sgt in charge of the detail to believe you were harboring rebs. And upon further investigation this was proven to be fact as the hog and the three chickens taken prisoner all refused to swear the oath of allegience and they were carried away accordingly. That all were killed while attempting to escape shortly therafter further proved their allegience to the enemy. Private Jaeger was savegely attacked by one in the escape attempt.

Hope to see you at Diane's wedding this June.

I have no knowledge of tracks around my house from whence you speak of, and if a Private Jaeger was attacked, it must have been from his own kind, for I only defended what was rightfully mine, which was my humble home, and with my broom at that. And now you have just proven to be the thief stealing my food from the smoke house. Your mother should be mortified at such a man she raised in a God fearing home is now a thief. I will speak to your 1st seargent for protection.

Remember to bathe before the wedding!

What a great lady! Welcome aboard, though you best watch out for a little blarney spread here and about. My little Wife, who has two well documented Confederate ancestors, won't give this hobby the time of day. Her loss, your gain. I look forward to more of your entertaining wit and knowledge.
