I was happy to find this forum. My undersgraduate degree was in History with an emphasis on military history. I got interested in the Civil War in high school when my local wargaming club introduced me to Civil War Miniatures. As I had moved to Texas from Iowa, I was immediately recruited to lead troop in the Union case (there being a surfeit of Rebels prowling about).
When I went off to college I donated my figures to the club. Now, I am painting up a new batch and my six-year old son can name a number of the generals and battles and can tell you the different between a regiment, a battalion and a division.
As a graduate of Texas Tech and the University of Texas, I will forgive your poor choice of schools. (Although I should add the my wife, the LSU grad, thinks my choices rather poor, as well).
Welcome from another old wargamer (I did board games like Avalon Hill and S&T back in the '70s). Glad you're raising your son with a sense of history. It's always good to have another participant here at this most civil of Civil War sites.
We are a Confederate unit, but we portray the 153rd New York as our Federal Impression. This Aggie says hello and welcomes you to the list. We have Companies in OK to Houston, with members in Okla, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana....this is a great place with lots of good info....
