Hello, everyone. Subordinate here reporting for duty to the CWT board.

Hawaii isn't exactly the place one would expect to find a 41 year old civil war buff I would assume!

I love to read books on the various battles of the Eastern campaigns but I never limit myself to reading about this department. The Western campaigns were inherently important to both sides as I see it. Presently, I am in an early-stage in my realm of knowledge and would like to absorb some of the outstanding ideas of the minds of members residing on both side of the Mason-Dixon Line.

I'm what one would call a neutral in the practical sense of selection of a 'side' in the American Civil War. I believe the South had a right to negotiate their wishes for secession and I believe the North had the right to preserve the Union of the States. The institution of slavery and States' Rights became the chemistry catalyst thrown into the equation and the rest is history. I admire the Union for it's solidity and resolve upon the principles of Lincoln and I admire the Confederacy for it's bravery and determination effectually carried upon the backs of it's brave soldiers for 4 years. Basically, I love reading of this time in our history.

I look forward to posing questions whenever appropriate and to examining these answers with care and consideration toward everyone.

I chose the username "subordinate" due to a long and boring story which occurred during my rotations within my field of study. The title adhered permanently within my mind and it seemed appropriate to use it.

Thank You,
subordinate

Welcome to the board, Subordinate. I spent three wonderful years in Hawai'i, on O'ahu. You can find some great Civil War stuff in the libraries on the UH campus.

As I recall, between Barnes & Noble and Borders, the Borders had the better Civil War selection.

Regards,
Cash

Welcome, subordinate. Must be a major bummer to be so far from CW sites. I thought my drive to such places to be a handicap. Your drive is much further. If you have questions, this is the place to find answers.

Ole, my old friend, I suspect his drive to civil war sites would require some serious interruption of breathing? I envy his being handicapped by location in his beautiful state. Would that more of us had that problem.

At, any rate, subordinate, you are among friends and students of the civil war. We welcome your input.
