I would like to say hello to everyone, as I am new here. I am a graduate student in History researching camps of instruction in Illinois. I am also an avid blogger and maintain several history related sites that are presented in my signature. I am always seeking writers for my blogs, so if you are interested, email me and tell me a little about yourself (educational background, if you work for a college/school, or other relevant information) so that I can get a better idea of what you would bring to the site as a writer. I will try to post occassionally, but I will be back in class soon, so my posting may be sparse. Great site and I hope to interact with it more.

Welcome, Daniel. Perusing your many blogs, I see you're a busy guy. Hope you have time to jump into the conversations here. I think you'll enjoy this group.
Hello Daniel. Those are interesting sites that you are connected with. I may have some first person accounts that may help you but I will have to go and check them again. It has been awhile since I have last read them.
Is there anything specifically you are searching for in these Illinois (why IL?) camps of instructions?
What school do you attend?
Anyways, welcome aboard.
Matt

Thanks for the welcome. To answer your questions, I chose IL because I am from IL (Jerseyville, which is north of Alton). What I am searching for is just to tell the story abuot what occurred in the camps. I attend the University of North Dakota, where I am working on my MA (my mom's family is from ND).

Daniel, welcome to CivilWarTalk. Hope you find some time to enter more than a few posts.
I may not live close to North Dakota, but I do follow college hockey, and I've heard plenty in recent years about North Dakota's attempt to retain the nickname of Fighting Sioux despite the NCAA's objections. Did they decide to change their nickname to Bison?
Universty of North Dakota, eh? Do you follow Bison football?
Bison Football? NEVER! I only follow the Fighting Sioux, which will be our nickname unless the students and administration, which face alumni pressure to keep the name lose resolve.

Ah gawt mah r-tickles published in maney maggarseens including a phew in the pressteejus Company of Military Hysterians.

I hate bragging about degrees and achievements. I've researched the blackpowder era for eight years now but do not consider myself an expert on the Civil War. Don't ask me why the war started or what it was over. I don't care and that it was fought is good enough for my purpose. However, I should be coming out with a book that will blow convention out of the water with respects to one very narrow aspect of the war.
Good luck on your education and your Civil War studies.
